This is another version of my favorite avarekalu usli. Just a couple of changes and it transforms the dish. A different texture and a different taste using pretty much the same ingredients. Version 1 of this recipe is also available if you would like to try that out. I can only guarantee that you won’t go wrong with either recipe! Enjoy!

Ingredients

  1. Avarekalu Usli.v2
  2. Pressure cook the avarekalu with a little salt. DRain water and keep aside.
  3. Grind coconut, green chillies, cilantro and garlic with a little water.
  4. Grind to a smooth, chutney consistency.
  5. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Add red onions and saute (or omit it if you prefer no onion no garlic).
  6. Add the cooked avarekalu into the pan and mix it briefly for a few seconds with the mustard and onions.
  7. Now add the ground mixture and cook for a couple of minutes. Add lemon juice and salt and mix everything well.
  8. Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with cilantro.
  9. Serve hot with roti or akki rotti or as a side dish with your routine rice and rasam.
