A wonderfully simple form of rasam designed for those sick days when you can’t taste much or those ‘bored of eating the routine’ days. This magical pepper rasam has something in it that just kickstarts your tastebuds when nothing seems appealing. Try this for a simple weeknight dinner or even as a starter drink for a party. Just be prepared to feed your guests a lot as this really increases everybody’s appetite. As the name describes this rasam is made with moongdal and the primary palate ticklers are lemon and black pepper. Scroll down for the recipe and try it out.

  1. Yummy appetizing katt saru/ lemon - pepper rasam
  2. Take a pressure cooker bowl and add the moongdal. Wash and drain water. To this add 2x water, turmeric, ginger, slit green chillies and chopped tomatoes.
  3. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or per your cooker's specifications
  4. Wait for the cooker to completely release pressure and remove the dal mix.
  5. Transfer the mix to a pan and add water to make it a thin liquid consistency and boil.
  6. Add salt and lemon juice while boiling
  7. Take a seperate seasoning pan, add a teaspoon of ghee or oil and let it heat. To this add the jeera and crushed black pepper and roast it for a few seconds.
  8. Add the seasoning to the boiling mixture.
  9. Turn off the heat and farnish with fresh chopped cilantro.
  10. Have this as an appetizer drink with a drop if ghee for the aroma
  11. Or eat it mixed with rice or quinoa with a side of pickle
